Biography
Collomb Bertrand is a French politician who served as the Mayor of Lyon from 2001 to 2017. He was also the President of the Metropolis of Lyon from 2015 to 2017. He is a member of the Socialist Party (PS).
Bertrand Collomb was born in Lyon on August 14, 1942. He studied law at the University of Lyon and economics at the École nationale d'administration (ENA). After graduating from ENA, he worked as a civil servant in the French Ministry of Finance.
In 1983, Collomb was elected to the National Assembly as a deputy for the Rhône department. He served in the National Assembly until 1993, when he was elected Mayor of Villeurbanne. He served as Mayor of Villeurbanne until 2001, when he was elected Mayor of Lyon.
As Mayor of Lyon, Collomb oversaw the construction of the Musée des Confluences, the Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie, and the Stade des Lumières. He also implemented a number of policies to improve the city's public transportation system and to promote economic development.
In 2015, Collomb was elected President of the Metropolis of Lyon. The Metropolis of Lyon is a metropolitan area that includes the city of Lyon and its surrounding suburbs. As President of the Metropolis of Lyon, Collomb oversaw the implementation of a number of policies to improve the region's public transportation system, to promote economic development, and to protect the environment.
In 2017, Collomb announced that he would not seek re-election as Mayor of Lyon or President of the Metropolis of Lyon. He was succeeded by Gérard Collomb, who is not related to Bertrand Collomb.
