American brothel owner, television personality, author and political candidate, whose best-known brothel is the Moonlite BunnyRanch. Hof and the Moonlite Bunny Ranch brothel were featured in the HBO series Cathouse, which ran from 2002 to 2014. He was the owner of seven legal brothels in Nevada. Several of his brothels are in Moundhouse, Nevada, a few minutes outside Carson City. Hof released an autobiography, The Art of the Pimp, in March 2015. The memoir includes personal accounts from women who worked for him, in which they detail sexual abuse at his hands. Hof died in Crystal, Nevada on 16 October 2018, two days after his 72nd birthday and less than a month before the 2018 general election. His name remained on the ballot (with polling places posting public signage stating that Hof was deceased), and he posthumously won election to the seat over his Democratic opponent, Lesia Romanov, by a 68.3% to 31.7% margin; under Nevada state law, the seat was declared vacant. Dennis Hof was born on October 14, 1946 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was a businessman and politician who owned several legal brothels in Nevada.
Hof began his career in the adult entertainment industry in the 1970s. He opened his first brothel, the Chicken Ranch, in Pahrump, Nevada in 1979. He went on to open several other brothels in the state, including the Mustang Ranch and the Shady Lady Ranch.
In 2016, Hof ran for a seat in the Nevada State Assembly as a Republican. He lost the election, but he continued to be a vocal advocate for the legalization of prostitution.
Hof died on October 16, 2018, at the age of 72. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
