Schmeichel is widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time. He began his career at Danish club Hvidovre IF, before moving to Brondby IF in 1987. He won three Danish Superliga titles and two Danish Cups with Brondby, and was named the Danish Footballer of the Year in 1990.
In 1991, Schmeichel joined Manchester United. He played for the club for eight seasons, winning five Premier League titles, three FA Cups, and one Champions League title. He was named the PFA Players' Player of the Year in 1996 and the European Goalkeeper of the Year in 1992, 1993, and 1998.
After leaving Manchester United, Schmeichel played for Sporting CP, Aston Villa, and Manchester City. He retired from playing in 2003.
Schmeichel has also represented Denmark at international level. He played for his country at three World Cups and three European Championships, winning the European Championship in 1992. He was named the Danish Footballer of the Year in 1992 and 1993.
After retiring from playing, Schmeichel became a goalkeeping coach at Aston Villa. He later worked as a goalkeeping coach for Manchester City and the Denmark national team.
In 2018, Schmeichel was appointed as the goalkeeping coach of Leicester City. He left the club in 2022.
In 2022, Schmeichel launched a new line of goalkeeping gloves in partnership with Adidas. He has also been involved in several charitable projects, including the Peter Schmeichel Foundation, which supports children in Denmark.
Schmeichel is considered one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time. He was known for his excellent reflexes, shot-stopping ability, and commanding presence in the penalty area. He was also a leader on and off the pitch, and was a key figure in Manchester United's success in the 1990s.
Schmeichel's son, Kasper, is also a professional footballer and goalkeeper. He currently plays for Leicester City and the Denmark national team.
