French nun of the Roman Catholic church who was a leading figure in the beatification of Pope John Paul II. She was cured of an illness with symptoms often described as those of Parkinsons disease in 2005 shortly after the death of Pope John Paul II. On 14 January 2011, Pope Benedict XVI officially recognized this healing as a miracle performed through the posthumous intercession of John Paul II, paving the way for his beatification. Since 2015, Sister Marie Simon-Pierre has testified, in various places where she is requested, about the key events in her healing. In June 2001, she was diagnosed with Parkinsons. After a recrudescence of her illness in May 2005, she joined with her community in asking for the intercession of John Paul II who was awaiting beatification. She stopped all treatment related to her illness on 3 June after noticing the disappearance of her symptoms, which was confirmed by a neurologist on 7 June 2005.
