Belgian Avocat général, she was strongly linked to the troubled investigation into the assassination of Minister André Cools. She was the first woman to take up the post of Public Prosecutor in Belgium when, strongly supported by part of the socialist political world, she was appointed to the Liège Court of Appeal in 1996. Her first months at the head of the Liège Court of Appeal saw the Marc Dutroux affair erupt, and the extraordinary twists and turns of the Cools affair. She became the main driving force in the controversial separation of the cases investigated at Neufchâteau in the context of the Dutroux case, then in the rereading of the Witness X cases entrusted by her to Judge Langlois, replacing Judge Connerotte.
