Understanding the Different Types of Lagnas in Vedic Astrology -DKSCORE

Different Types of Lagnas in Vedic Astrology

Hello folks, today we are going to discuss the various types of Lagnas (Ascendants) to use when reading your birth chart. This issue is not only a dilemma for beginner astrologers but also for seasoned practitioners. The question often arises: which Lagna or Ascendant should be given more importance? In other words, from which house should we read the chart to make it the focal point?

The Rising Sign or Basic Lagna

The most obvious place to start is the rising sign or the basic Lagna. This is calculated by your exact time of birth and changes every two to three hours. It is much more specific than the Moon sign, which changes every two or three days, and the Sun sign, which changes once every month.

The Moon Sign

The Moon sign is another critical component in Vedic astrology. It is a good bet if you don’t know your exact time of birth. For both the dasha periods and transits, it works quite well. The Moon sign is considered the second most important after the basic ascendant.

The Sun Sign

The Sun sign is also important but less specific compared to the rising sign and the Moon sign. It changes only once a month, making it less specific but still valuable for certain types of readings.

Arudha Lagna

Arudha Lagna represents the manifestation of Maya or how the outward world perceives us. This becomes particularly important for understanding public perception and external events that affect us.

Atmakaraka Lagna

The Atmakaraka planet is the planet with the highest degrees in your chart. Placing this planet at the top and treating that sign as the Lagna can provide a good focal point, especially if you are doubtful about your exact time of birth. This method has shown very good results, particularly when you are going through the dasha of the planets situated with the Atmakaraka.

Bhava Lagna

Bhava Lagna is the sign where the Lagna lord is placed. For example, if you are a Leo Lagna but the Sun goes into Taurus, then Taurus becomes the Lagna. This method is also quite important and often used in Jaimini calculations.

Jeeva Lagna

Jeeva Lagna, also known as Jiva Lagna, is another significant focal point. For males, it is often the sign where Jupiter is placed, and for females, it is the sign where Venus is placed. However, some astrologers, including myself, prefer to use Jupiter for both males and females. This Lagna is especially important when calculating lifespan or longevity.

Dasha Lagna

Dasha Lagna involves treating the dasha lord you are going through as the Lagna. This could be any major planetary period like Rahu, Saturn, etc., and is particularly useful during Vimshottari Dasha periods.

High Energy Signs

Any sign with three or more planets can also be taken as a Lagna because it becomes a high-energy place in the chart. The goal is to see patterns that repeat from Different Types of Lagnas. The more the repetition, the more likely the prediction will come true.

Special Considerations

Another way to see which Lagna is working best is by observing where the eclipses are hitting. If the eclipses are affecting the axis where you have many planets, you will likely see significant life events manifesting.

Conclusion

The basic rule to keep in mind is that while Different Types of Lagnas can modify or alter the effects of the planets, nothing can completely change the basic D1 Lagna chart, which tends to be the foundation of the chart. Using a combination of these Lagnas and seeing what patterns repeat can yield the most accurate readings. Sometimes, you might find that using the Atmakaraka as the focal point gives more accurate results, especially if there are multiple planets in the same sign.

In conclusion, the choice of Lagna can significantly influence your astrological readings. By considering Different Types of Lagnas like the basic ascendant, Moon sign, Sun sign, Arudha Lagna, Atmakaraka Lagna, Bhava Lagna, Jeeva Lagna, and Dasha Lagna, you can get a more comprehensive and accurate picture. Combining these methods and observing repeating patterns can provide the most reliable results.
