An eight-story commercial building, Rana Plaza, collapsed in Savar, a sub-district in the Greater Dhaka Area, the capital of Bangladesh. Approximately 2,500 people were injured. At least 2,500 people were rescued from the building alive. The search for the dead ended on 13 May with the death toll of 1,127. It is considered to be the deadliest garment-factory accident in history, as well as the deadliest structural failure in modern human history (excluding the collapse of the World Trade Center, which was the aftermath of a deliberate act of violence). The building, Rana Plaza, was owned by Sohel Rana, leader of the local Jubo League, the youth wing of the ruling Awami League. It housed a number of separate garment factories employing around 5,000 people, several shops, and a bank. The factories manufactured apparel for brands including Bennetton, Bonmarché, Cato Fashions, the Childrens Place, el Corte Ingles, DressBarn, Joe Fresh,[13] Mango, Matalan, Monsoon, and Primark. Walmart claims that they had no authorised production in the building, although one of the Rana Plaza factories, Ether Tex, listed Walmart as a customer. The building collapsed at 8.45 am, leaving only the ground floor intact. The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association president confirmed that 3,122 workers were in the building at the time of the collapse. One local resident described the scene as if "an earthquake had struck." One of the garment manufacturers websites indicates that more than half of the victims were women, along with a number of their children who were in nursery facilities within the building.[11] Bangladeshi Home Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir confirmed that army, fire service personnel, police and Rapid Action Battalion troops were assisting with the rescue effort. On 10 May, 17 days after the collapse, a woman named Reshma was found and rescued alive and almost unhurt under the rubble. Link to Wikipedia biography Read less
In Vedic astrology, the placement of the natal lagna (ascendant) in Gemini, with its ruler Mercury located in the 10th house in Pisces, creates a fascinating and dynamic astrological profile. Let’s break down these elements to understand their combined influence on an individual’s life. **Gemini Lagna in Mrigasira Nakshatra:** Gemini is an air sign ruled by Mercury, known for its adaptability, intellect, and communicative abilities. When the ascendant falls in Gemini, it bestows the individual with curiosity, a love for learning, and a versatile nature. Mrigasira nakshatra, which spans from late Taurus into early Gemini, adds an extra layer of creativity and searching quality, often making the individual keen on exploration and discovery. This nakshatra is symbolized by a deer’s head, suggesting a gentle and inquisitive nature. Such individuals are often drawn to artistic or intellectual pursuits and may have a knack for research or investigation. **Mercury in the 10th House in Pisces and Revati Nakshatra:** The 10th house is associated with career, public image, and societal contributions. Having Mercury in this house suggests a career involving communication, teaching, writing, or any intellectual enterprise. However, Mercury in Pisces—a sign where it is debilitated—can lead to a more intuitive and imaginative approach rather than a purely logical one. This placement may present challenges in decision-making due to a tendency to be idealistic or overly sensitive. Despite this, the Revati nakshatra, which Mercury occupies, provides a protective and nurturing influence. Revati is the final nakshatra, known for its connection to growth, prosperity, and spiritual insight. It can imbue the individual with a deep sense of empathy and a desire to help others, potentially leading to success in humanitarian or artistic fields. **Combined Influence:** The combination of these factors indicates a person who is intellectually gifted and communicatively skilled, with a strong desire to contribute to society through creative or service-oriented careers. The challenge lies in balancing practicality with idealism and harnessing intuitive insights without losing focus. This alignment can yield great success if the individual learns to ground their imaginative capabilities into tangible outcomes.
