French writer. In 1972 he won Goncourt Prize for his novel LÉpervier de Maheux, A few months later his father was killed and he plunged into a depression, after a divorce. He lived as a recluse in the Cevennes. In exile, Jean continued writing, altogether 21 titles. He died 8 May 2005, near Nimes. Link to Wikipedia biography

Carriere is a member of the Académie française and the Académie des beaux-arts. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the César Award, the Academy Award, and the Legion of Honour.
