Scottish business executive and international rugby player. Gammell played rugby union for the Scottish national team. He scored two tries on his debut for Scotland, against Ireland at Murrayfield in 1977, but his career was cut short by injury. He was a school friend of Tony Blair, who as UK Prime Minister recommended Gammell for a knighthood for services to Scottish industry Using venture capital, he founded Cairn Energy in Edinburgh. The company invested in several unsuccessful oilfields in the US before making a modest strike in the Pennsylvania oilfield. Gammell was appointed Cairns Chief Executive on its initial listing in 1989. In the mid 1990s he led the company in a radical reallocation of its assets, moving out of US and North Sea oil and gas concerns and into neglected fields in South Asia. The companys fortunes soared in 2004, when a field it had bought in 2001 (for $7.5 million) from Shell in the Indian province of Rajasthan was found to contain close to 1.1 billion barrels of oil, catapulting it into the FTSE 100. Gammells father invested in US oil company Bush-Overbey, owned by future US President George H. W. Bush. The two families became friends, with George W. Bush spending the summer at the Gammells farm in Scotland. George W. attended Bill Gammells wedding in Glasgow in 1983. The two have remained close friends. When George W. Bush assumed the Presidency, both he and Blair reportedly called their mutual friend Gammell to ask his opinion of the other. Link to Wikipedia Read less

In Vedic astrology, the natal lagna (ascendant) plays a crucial role in shaping an individual's personality and life experiences. When the natal lagna is in Scorpio, it imparts a deep, intense, and transformative nature to the individual. Scorpio ascendants are known for their determination, passion, and resourcefulness. They tend to be secretive and have a strong desire for control and power. Their emotional depth often drives them to explore the mysteries of life, leading to profound personal growth and transformation. Anuradha Nakshatra, where this ascendant falls, adds another layer of complexity. Ruled by Saturn, Anuradha is associated with friendship, cooperation, and balance. Individuals with their ascendant in Anuradha are often seen as disciplined and possess a strong sense of justice. They value relationships deeply and strive for harmony in their interactions. This nakshatra also endows them with leadership qualities and an innate ability to inspire others. The placement of the lagna lord, Mars, in the 4th house in Aquarius sign and Dhanista Nakshatra introduces dynamic energies to this configuration. Mars in the 4th house suggests a strong attachment to home and family, with a drive to create a secure and stable domestic environment. However, with Aquarius being an air sign ruled by Saturn, there is a blending of innovative and unconventional approaches to home life. This can result in a unique and progressive domestic atmosphere. Dhanista Nakshatra, where Mars is positioned, is ruled by Mars itself and is associated with wealth, music, and rhythm. This placement enhances the individual's ability to accumulate resources and enjoy material prosperity. It also imbues them with a strong sense of rhythm and creativity, which can manifest in artistic or musical talents. However, the influence of Aquarius may lead to occasional conflicts between personal desires and societal or familial expectations. Overall, this astrological configuration suggests a complex individual with a deep emotional core, a strong sense of justice, and a unique approach to life. They are likely to experience significant personal growth through relationships and domestic life, while also possessing the potential for creative and material success.
