Margueron JeanClaude was born on October 25, 1934 in Madrid, Spain. He is a French archaeologist and historian who has specialized in the study of the Near East, particularly the archaeology of Syria and Mesopotamia.
Margueron received his PhD from the University of Paris in 1965. He has held teaching positions at the University of Strasbourg, the University of Paris, and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales.
Margueron has directed numerous archaeological excavations in Syria and Mesopotamia, including the excavations at Mari, Ebla, and Tell Mardikh.
