As a youth, the family doctor began taking him along to visit the sick and in his 20s he became one of a number of spiritual healers working under official sanction. He was supervised and tested, eventually being given an official government certificate which designated him a healer. Ferment in the government caused the healing program to end, but he and his wife moved to the U.S. where he became a Washington D.C. success, working as a healer and teaching large classes of doctors and other health practitioners.
