### Biography
Rode Jan was born on June 13, 1914, in Groningen, Netherlands. He was a member of the Dutch resistance during World War II and was executed by the Nazis in 1945.
### Career
Jan was a member of the Communist Party of the Netherlands and worked as a journalist and editor before the war. After the German invasion of the Netherlands in 1940, he joined the resistance movement. He was involved in sabotage and espionage activities and helped to organize strikes and demonstrations.
### Arrest and Execution
In November 1944, Jan was arrested by the Nazis and sentenced to death. He was executed by firing squad on March 12, 1945.
### Legacy
Jan is remembered as one of the most prominent figures in the Dutch resistance movement. He was awarded the posthumous Medal of Freedom by the United States government in 1946.
