Wolfgang Schüssel is an Austrian politician who served as Chancellor of Austria from 2000 to 2007. He was the leader of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) from 1995 to 2007.
Schüssel was born in Vienna, Austria, on June 7, 1945. He studied law at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1969. After graduating from law school, Schüssel worked as a lawyer and then as a journalist. He entered politics in 1975 when he was elected to the Austrian Parliament. As Chancellor, Schüssel led a coalition government with the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ). The FPÖ is a right-wing party that has been accused of racism and xenophobia.
