Master Vedic Astrology: Secrets of Reading Vedic Birth Chart -DKSCOREdkwatemark

Vedic Astrology Simplified: Your Complete Guide to Birth Chart Reading

Introduction to Lagna and Its Importance

The Lagna, or ascendant, is the starting point of a chart. The chart revolves around the Lagna, similar to how the planets revolve around the Sun in the solar system. The ascendant or Lagna represents the self, around which all experiences revolve. If your Lagna Lord is strong, you don’t need as much support from others. You can freely move ahead with your plans, and you don’t need approval or support. It’s nice to have it, but it’s not essential for you to thrive and succeed in life.

Understanding the Natural Zodiac

To really see the influencers in the chart, we need to understand the natural zodiac, also known as the Kalpurush. This means Aries is always the first house or the Lagna, governed by Mars. Taurus is always the second house, connected to Dhan Bhava (wealth), and it’s governed by Venus.

Bhava Karakas for All Houses

We also need to understand the Bhava Karakas for all the houses:

First House (Lagna): Sun

Second House (Dhan Bhava - Wealth): Jupiter

Third House (Sahaj - Siblings): Mars

Fourth House (Sukh Bhava - Comforts): Moon and Mercury

Fifth House (Santaan - Children): Jupiter

Sixth House (Shatru - Enemies): Mars

Seventh House (Conquest, Victory): Venus

Eighth House (Mritu - Death): Saturn

Ninth House (Dharma - Duty, Purpose): Sun and Jupiter

Tenth House (Karma - Actions): Sun, Mars, Mercury, Saturn

Eleventh House (Labh - Gains): Jupiter, Sun, Saturn

Twelfth House (Vyaya - Expenses, Disappearance): Saturn

Summary of Bhava Karakas

In conclusion, Moon and Venus are the Karakas for only one Bhava. Sun is for two (First and Ninth). Mars is for three (Third and Sixth). Mercury is for two (Fourth and Tenth). Saturn is for four (Sixth, Eighth, Tenth, and Twelfth). Jupiter is for four (Second, Fifth, Ninth, Eleventh). Hence, Jupiter is quite important and is called Jeev Karaka.

Analysis of Lagna Lord Placement

When your Lagna Lord is placed in a certain house, see it also as the Sun going into that house. For instance, if your Lagna Lord is in the seventh house, then it’s as if the Sun has gone into the seventh house, which is Venus’s house.

There is also the concept of Neech Bhava. When Lagna Lord is placed in the fourth house, it’s not necessarily positive because it’s as if the Sun has gone into the fourth house. This can indicate a lack of principles because the Sun signifies Dharma. The Moon can behave in an immoral way because it is changeable and wavering.

Similarly, when the fourth Lord is placed in the Eighth House, it is akin to the fall of the fourth Lord. It’s as if the Moon has gone into Scorpio. This can result in a lack of domestic happiness and comforts, and it will show up in the Dasha of the fourth Lord.

Concept of Ucha Bhava

Ucha Bhava means higher exalted. If we take the Lagna Lord and place it in the tenth house, it may act very well because it’s as if we’ve placed the Sun in the tenth house where the Sun does very well. However, if we place the tenth Lord in the first house, it’s a different story because Saturn is also the Karaka of the tenth house. It’s as if Saturn has gone into the first house, which can result in health issues and low self-esteem, especially in childhood years.

Placing the tenth Lord in the seventh house is excellent because it’s as if we have taken Saturn and placed him in the seventh house, where Saturn gets exalted and gains Dig Bala. Any planet that is the tenth Lord, like Mercury or Mars, can benefit from this position.

Influence of Multiple Factors

We always have to see more than one factor to understand the results a planet will give in a house. For example, Mars or Mercury as the tenth Lord in the seventh house can lead to positive growth and a reputable or popular spouse or business partners.

A common example is the fifth Lord in the seventh house, which can create competition and power struggles in relationships. The analysis doesn’t end there as we have to consider aspects and influences from other planets.

Influence of Grahas

The rule is that wherever the Graha is placed, it will impact the results of that house directly and indirectly influence the results of the house that it aspects. For instance, if the Lagna Lord is in the fifth house, it brings the first and Eighth House energies (Sun and Mars) into the fifth house, which can cause unhappiness related to children.

Positive Scenarios

If the fifth Lord is in the Lagna, it brings the energy of the fifth Lord (Sun, Mars, and Jupiter) into the Lagna, which is very positive. Jupiter gains strength in the first house, and the Sun gives strong will and leadership. Jupiter’s influence brings knowledge, intelligence, and past life merits.

Ratio of Results

Roughly speaking, the results are 80 percent by the Lordships’ internal attributes and 20 percent by the Bhava itself. For example, the second Lord in the fourth house can gain wealth through teaching, real estate, or vehicles. If it’s a weak second Lord, it could lead to more loss than gain.

The essence of a planet is to nurture its lordship through the house it sits in. For instance, the seventh Lord in the second house needs a connection with family and wealth to feel good. This is known as the transfer of resources.

Significations of Lagna

The significations of Lagna include intellect, sense of purpose, ability to discriminate right from wrong, ideals, principles, likes and dislikes, personality, beliefs, body, and health. Externally, it includes birthplace, homeland, social identity, language, culture, and religion.

The ultimate objective of the Lagna Lord is to attain success and fulfill life’s purpose. It will always protect its significations, even at the cost of the Bhava where it’s situated.

Aspects and Influence

The Lagna can aspect the seventh, fourth, and eighth houses and influence them indirectly. The actual aspects and the place where the Lagna Lord aspects are significant. For example, Mars’s fourth and eighth aspects are more significant than the seventh one.

Depending on the Lagnesh, the results will vary. For Taurus Lagna, the seventh house (Scorpio) is important and can indicate a strong libido. For Sagittarius, the fourth house is significant, indicating education and home. For Scorpio, the eighth house is influential, indicating the occult, inheritances, investments, and life’s mysteries.

If the Lagna Lord is strong, it will always protect the significations of the Lagna. If it’s weak, the Bhava can sap away the resources. The Lagna Lord carrying the Sun’s energy charges the house where it’s situated. If it’s weak, it can manifest the energy of the eighth house, which is destructive.
