Karl Bucher was a Swiss architect and furniture designer. He was born on September 22, 1912 in Basel, Switzerland. Bucher studied architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. After graduating, he worked for several architectural firms before establishing his own practice in 1945.
Bucher is best known for his design of the Swiss Pavilion at the 1964 New York World's Fair. The pavilion was a modernist masterpiece that showcased Swiss architecture and design. Bucher also designed several other buildings in Switzerland, including the Hauptsitz der Swiss Re in Zurich and the Kunsthaus Zürich.
In addition to his work as an architect, Bucher was also a talented furniture designer. He designed several pieces of furniture for his own home, as well as for clients. Bucher's furniture is known for its simple, elegant lines and its use of natural materials.
