Turkish politician, poet, writer, scholar, and journalist, who served as the 16th Prime Minister of Turkey four times between 1974 and 2002. He served as prime minister of Turkey in 1974, 1977, 1978–1979, and 1999–2002. He was the leader of the Republican Peoples Party (CHP) between 1972 and 1980, and in 1989 he became the leader of the Democratic Left Party (DSP). Ecevit was hospitalized in Ankara and placed in a medically induced coma after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage on 18 May 2006, which struck him after he attended a friends funeral. He died there from respiratory failure on 5 November 2006 at 20:40 (UTC), aged 81. Ecevit Blent
Turkish politician and author Ecevit Blent passed on September 25, 2012 at the age of 87.
Born on May 28, 1925 in Istanbul, Turkey, Blent was a member of the Republican People's Party (CHP) and served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1974 to 1975. He was also a member of the Turkish Parliament from 1969 to 1977 and from 1983 to 1989.
Blent was a prolific writer and published over 20 books on politics, history, and literature. He was also a regular columnist for the Turkish newspaper Cumhuriyet.
Blent's death was met with sadness by many in Turkey. He was remembered as a respected politician and a gifted writer.
