Robert Englund (born June 6, 1947) is an American actor, director, and singer best known for his portrayal of Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street film series.

Englund was born in Glendale, California, and began his acting career in the early 1970s. He made his film debut in the 1974 film Buster and Billie, and went on to appear in a number of films and television shows throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

In 1984, Englund was cast as Freddy Krueger in the original Nightmare on Elm Street film. The film was a critical and commercial success, and Englund went on to reprise the role in seven sequels. He also directed one of the sequels, 1987's A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.
