Hillman James is an American actor and film producer who has appeared in over 100 films and television shows. He is best known for his roles as Dr. Ben Samuels in the NBC medical drama "ER" and as the father of Al Bundy in the Fox sitcom "Married... with Children".
James began his acting career in the early 1950s, appearing in small roles in films such as "The Caine Mutiny" (1954) and "The Ten Commandments" (1956). He gained wider recognition in the 1960s with his role as Dr. Ben Samuels on "ER", which he played for over 10 years. In addition to his work in film and television, James has also appeared in numerous stage productions, including "Death of a Salesman" and "A Streetcar Named Desire".
James is also a film producer, and he has produced several films, including "The Glass House" (2001) and "The Pacifier" (2005). He is also the founder of the Hillman James Acting Studio, which provides training for aspiring actors.
James is married to actress and writer Tina Sloan, and they have two children. He is also the uncle of actor and comedian David Schwimmer.
