An Emeritus Research Director at the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), he was a member of the Social Anthropology Laboratory (Collège de France, EHESS, Paris) from its founding in 1960 by Claude Lévi-Strauss. Izard Michel was born on November 26, 1931 in Paris, France. He is a French actor, director, and screenwriter.
Michel began his career in the theatre, and made his film debut in 1954. He has since appeared in over 100 films, including Les Quatre Cents Coups (1959), Le Petit Soldat (1960), and Pierrot le Fou (1965).
Michel has also directed several films, including La Maman et la Putain (1973), Violette Nozière (1978), and Passion (1982).
