### Biography
Maley Howard was born on December 6, 1921, in Dallas, Texas. He began playing the saxophone at an early age and soon became proficient on the instrument. In the 1940s, he played with various jazz bands in Texas and Oklahoma. In the 1950s, he moved to New York City and played with some of the biggest names in jazz, including Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Thelonious Monk.
In the 1960s, Howard began experimenting with different genres of music, including rock and roll, soul, and funk. He also began to compose his own music. In the 1970s, he released several albums as a leader, including "The Maley Howard Quintet" and "Maley Howard Plays the Music of Duke Ellington."
Howard continued to play and record music throughout the 1980s and 1990s. He also taught jazz at various colleges and universities. In 2003, he was inducted into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame.
Howard died on February 22, 2019, at the age of 97. He is considered one of the most influential jazz saxophonists of all time.
