Martin Tracy Hurley was born on September 20, 1970 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He is a public figure and author best known for his work in the fields of education, technology, and entrepreneurship.
Hurley attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1992. He then went on to earn a Master of Arts in English from the University of California, Berkeley in 1994.
After graduating from Berkeley, Hurley worked as a teacher and educational consultant. In 2000, he co-founded the online education company 2U, which provides online degree programs from top universities. Hurley served as 2U's CEO until 2013.
In 2014, Hurley founded the venture capital firm Stray Dog Capital. Stray Dog Capital invests in early-stage technology companies. Hurley is also a co-founder of the non-profit organization The Democracy Fund, which supports projects that promote democracy and civic engagement.
Hurley is the author of several books, including "The New Education: How Technology Is Changing the Way We Learn" (2012) and "The Future of Education: Rethinking the Way We Learn and Teach" (2018).
