In 2012, he received the João Ribeiro Medal from the Brazilian Academy of Letters (ABL), awarded annually to personalities who stand out in the field of culture. He directed the first feature documentary produced by GloboNews, Garrafas ao Mar: a Víbora Manda Lembranças. The documentary gathers his interviews recorded over twenty years with journalist Joel Silveira, considered the greatest Brazilian reporter. He died of an aortic aneurysm, aged 60, on 22 August 2016.
