Brazilian journalist and author who began his career as a reporter for the Diário de Pernambuco in 1972. Between 1975 and 1980, he was a reporter for the Northeast branch of the newspaper O Estado de S.Paulo; after that, he worked for TV Globo Nordeste as a reporter and editor until he moved to TV Globo Rio de Janeiro in 1985. He was editor of Jornal da Globo and Jornal Nacional, correspondent for GloboNews and O Globo newspaper in England, as well as reporter and editor-in-chief of the Sunday show Fantástico. He won the 2010 Embratel Telejournalism Award for his interviews with Newton Cruz and Leônidas Pires Gonçalves, shown in the Dossiê GloboNews program. In 2010, he directed the documentary, Songs of Exile, shown on Canal Brasil, with testimonies by Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Jorge Mautner and Jards Macalé about the period in which they lived in London. In 2012, he received the João Ribeiro Medal from the Brazilian Academy of Letters (ABL), awarded annually to personalities who stand out in the field of culture. He directed the first feature documentary produced by GloboNews, Garrafas ao Mar: a Víbora Manda Lembranças. The documentary gathers his interviews recorded over twenty years with journalist Joel Silveira, considered the greatest Brazilian reporter. He died of an aortic aneurysm, aged 60, on 22 August 2016.
