Reichenbach, François, French mathematician, epistemologist, and philosopher of science, was born on 3 July 1921 in Paris, France. He died on 19 March 1993 in Munich, Germany.
Reichenbach studied mathematics and physics at the University of Göttingen, where he received his doctorate in 1944. He then taught at the University of Istanbul and the University of Zurich before moving to the United States in 1950. He taught at the University of California, Los Angeles, from 1950 until his death in 1993.
Reichenbach was a leading figure in the logical positivism movement, which sought to apply the methods of logic and mathematics to the analysis of scientific language and the concepts of science. He was also a pioneer in the field of artificial intelligence, and he developed a number of influential theories about the nature of time and space.
Reichenbach was a prolific writer, and he published over 20 books and 200 articles. His most important works include:
