American Space Shuttle Columbia #STS107 launched 1/16/2003 at 10:39 AM EST, Kennedy Space Center, FL. (During lift-off foam fell off and hit left wing area -??) It began to break up during reentry on 2/1/2003, starting approximately 7:53 AM/CST where temperature sensors were lost on left side of shuttle. Debris was sighted over Central Texas areas (including Palestine, TX ) The Columbia was traveling at approx. 13,000 mph at 207,135 ft. doing MACH 18.3 (18 X’s speed of sound) STS 1 - First Launched on 4/12/1981, 6:00AM ESTThe seven astronauts who were all lost are: 1] Rick Douglas Husband – Colonel USAF / STS107 Commander, July 12, 1957, Amarillo, Texas, EDUCATION: Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, Texas Tech University, 1980; masters in mechanical engineering, California State University-Fresno, 1990.
