American football player and coach and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana from 1970 to 1984, compiling a record of 84–65–2. Bill began his career as a singer in the early 1950s. He released several singles and albums, including the hit song "I'm Just a Lucky So-and-So." In the late 1950s, Bill began appearing in films and television shows. He had roles in such films as "The Apartment" (1960), "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (1961), and "The Odd Couple" (1968). Bill also appeared in numerous television shows, including "The Andy Griffith Show," "The Beverly Hillbillies," and "The Dick Van Dyke Show."
Bill was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "The Apartment" (1960). He also won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (1961).
Bill was married to actress Renée Taylor from 1953 until his death in 1994. The couple had two children.
