He also studied piano with Yvonne Lefébure and Alfred Cortot. Irne's music is characterized by its use of atonality, polyrhythms, and extended techniques. He has composed works for a variety of ensembles, including orchestras, chamber groups, and solo instruments. Irne has received numerous awards for his music, including the Grand Prix National de la Musique in 1984. He has also been commissioned by major orchestras and ensembles around the world.
