Norwegian politician and former trade union leader.
Wiik was born in Oslo, Norway on July 7, 1956. He graduated from the University of Oslo with a degree in political science in 1982.
Wiik began his political career in the Norwegian Labour Party (Arbeiderpartiet). He served as a member of the Oslo City Council from 1983 to 1991. In 1993, he was elected to the Norwegian Parliament, where he served until 2001.
In 2001, Wiik was appointed Minister of Trade and Industry by Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg. He served in this position until 2005.
In 2007, Wiik was elected President of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (Landsorganisasjonen i Norge). He served in this position until 2013.
Wiik has received numerous awards and recognition for his work, including the Order of St. Olav, the highest honor that can be bestowed by the Norwegian government.
Wiik is currently the chairman of the board of the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI).
