American composer, conductor, pianist and music teacher, who specialized in music for the radio, television, film and stage. From 1966 to 1986 he was the musical director and composer-in-residence at the Trinity Repertory Company Theatre in Providence, Rhode Island. His works include "Sonata" (for piano, 1951), "24 Preludes" (for piano, 1968), the screenplay for The House of Mirth (1981 film), a stage adaption of Charles Dickens novel A Christmas Carol (1996 play, with Adrian Hall). He was taught by Roger Sessions, Ernest Bloch and Arnold Schoenberg (for composition); and Lili Krause and Rudolf Firkusny (for piano). He died on 25 November 2009, aged 81. Read less
