Swiss newsmaker, a surrogate child born to gay fathers Alejandro Grinblat and Gustavo Dermgerd, and granted citizenship despite surrogacy being illegal in his fathers country of Switzerland. Tobias was conceived through artificial insemination of a donor egg by one of his fathers sperm. Both fathers were listed as parents on his Californian birth certificate, after the surrogate mother delivered him in New Delhi, India, and abdicated parental rights. Under Swiss law only the surrogate mother and her husband were considered the legal parents, so Grinblat and Dermgerd petitioned the Swiss national registry for parental recognition, which was eventually granted.
