Leslie and her husband, Robert, had a stormy marriage; he was mean and brutal, and they were always fighting. She had been a fairly wild teenager when she met Robert and married him after getting pregnant. Leslie worked as an engineer and had been in the Army. She also had worked for General Dynamics for 11 years, off and on.
