Biography:
Veil Simone is a renowned French choreographer, dancer, and educator. Born in Nice, France in 1927, Simone began her dance training at the age of four. She went on to study at the Paris Opera Ballet School and made her professional debut as a dancer with the company in 1946.
Simone's career spanned over six decades, during which she created and choreographed numerous works for both ballet and contemporary dance companies. She was known for her innovative use of movement and her ability to create works that were both beautiful and thought-provoking.
In addition to her work as a choreographer, Simone was also a passionate educator and mentor. She founded her own dance company, the Veil Simone Dance Company, in 1962, which served as a training ground for young dancers and choreographers.
Simone received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career, including the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) in 1981 and the Légion d'honneur (Legion of Honour) in 2016.
Simone passed away in Paris, France on January 12, 2023, at the age of 95. She left behind a legacy of groundbreaking work and a profound impact on the world of dance.
