Jan Palach (11 August 1948 – 19 January 1969) was a Czech student who committed suicide in protest against the Soviet-led invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968.
Palach was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He studied philosophy and history at Charles University in Prague. In January 1969, he set himself on fire in Wenceslas Square in Prague. He died three days later in hospital.
