**Phranc** (born August 28, 1957) is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and producer.
Early life and education
Phranc was born in Santa Monica, California. She began playing the piano at age 4 and writing songs at age 12. She attended the California Institute of the Arts, where she studied music and composition.
Music career
Phranc's music career began in the early 1980s when she formed the band Phranc with her then-husband, John Shanks. The band released two albums, Phranc (1984) and Leap of Faith (1986), before disbanding in 1987. Phranc then embarked on a solo career, releasing her debut solo album, Phranc, in 1990. The album was a critical and commercial success, spawning the singles "I Want You" and "Runaway Heart."
Phranc has since released seven more solo albums, including Forbidden Love (1992), The Way I Feel (1995), Joy (2000), Awakening (2005), Hope (2009), Love (2013), and Soul (2017). She has also written and produced songs for other artists, including Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, and Faith Hill.
Personal life
Phranc is married to actor and musician John Shanks. The couple has two children.
